The first useful distinction
A paddleboard or catering package can be a choice. A required skipper, cleaning fee or starter pack is part of the cost of taking that particular boat. Gangway treats those two groups differently.

A €250 skipper per day, €100 cleaning fee per booking and €40 fuel charge per person cannot be compared or added correctly until duration and group size are known.
Every trusted observation in this snapshot has a public amount, but Gangway still preserves the rule: a mandatory service without a fixed price stays variable, never zero.

Practical answers
Mandatory extras are charges the supplier requires in addition to the base charter price. They can include a skipper, final cleaning, fuel, a starter pack, port charges or required crew. Gangway keeps them separate from optional services.
No. Some boats include a skipper in the base rate, some make the skipper optional and others require a separately priced skipper. The listing and final quotation should state which arrangement applies.
It depends on the boat and charter. Some listings include fuel, some show a fixed mandatory fuel charge, and others calculate consumption after the trip. A missing fixed fuel amount should never be interpreted as a promise of unlimited included fuel.
Match the same dates and duration, then add every known mandatory charge using its real basis: per booking, per day, per week or per person. Keep optional extras and refundable deposits separate, and compare the resulting whole-boat total.
No. A refundable security deposit is not part of the charter cost, so it is not added to the benchmarks. Travellers should still check the required amount, payment method and release conditions before booking.
No. It is a market benchmark based on trusted public supplier data. Availability, dates, discounts, taxes, platform charges, fuel consumption and owner-specific conditions can change the final price.
Methodology
The report measures what the supplier explicitly disclosed, not what a model inferred from sales copy. It is designed to make public charter data more comparable without claiming false precision.
Only approved, SEO-published boats in Gangway’s five active Mediterranean destinations enter the sample. Jet skis are excluded.
An extra must be marked mandatory and come from a trusted structured supplier section. Description-only guesses and optional services are excluded.
Duplicate rows are collapsed by boat, normalized extra and charging basis. A listing with repeated markup cannot carry extra statistical weight.
Per-day, per-week, per-person and per-booking charges are never blended into one misleading average.
Typical priced extras use the median. The middle 50% uses the 25th and 75th percentiles to reduce distortion from unusually large charters.
A boat without a trusted parsed extra is not labelled fee-free. Variable and undisclosed costs must still be confirmed in the live quotation.
