Cannes places one of the French Riviera's easiest boat days directly outside the harbour. The Iles de Lerins sit across the bay, close enough for a relaxed half day yet varied enough for a full day of swimming, snorkelling and lunch. To the west, the red rock of the Esterel and the coves around Theoule-sur-Mer create a more scenic coastal run. To the east, Cap d'Antibes opens another sequence of beaches, villas and clear-water corners. A Cannes boat rental can therefore be simple and local or the start of a much longer Riviera charter.
The mistake is treating Saint-Tropez, Monaco and every Riviera landmark as equally close. They are possible on selected fast yachts and long, carefully planned days, but the most satisfying Cannes charters often stay between the Lerins Islands, Cap d'Antibes and the Esterel. Less transit means more time swimming, eating and enjoying the boat. Old Port, Port Canto and nearby Mandelieu-La Napoule or Port du Beal can all serve the area, so confirm the exact starting point.
Cannes also rewards precise expectations. A small licence-free or solar boat is intended for the bay under the operator's boundaries, while a motor yacht with crew can range farther and handle a more formal service. Worth the route
Cannes offers excellent variety within a relatively compact area. The strongest itinerary normally combines one main coastline with the Lerins Islands rather than attempting the whole Riviera.
Lerins Islands
The larger Lerins island has pine and eucalyptus woodland, coves and Fort Royal. Its proximity to Cannes makes it suitable for both short and full-day charters.

Tell the captain whether history, snorkelling, lunch ashore or quiet water matters most. That determines which island side and landing arrangement make sense, especially when ferries and private boats are concentrated around the usual approaches.
