Why this trip is worth a day

Northern Mykonos is less developed and can feel far removed from the southern beach circuit. Panormos, Agios Sostis and Fokos are attractive objectives, but they face the direction of the common summer northerly and may be unsuitable by boat when the south is comfortable. Consider this a calm-weather opportunity, not a route to book rigidly. A knowledgeable captain may show the group a quieter southern alternative instead.

   Panormos

   Panormos opens into a broad northern bay with a long sweep of sand and a less built-up backdrop than Mykonos' south. In calm weather it is an impressive first approach by boat.

   Agios Sostis

   Agios Sostis is smaller, simpler and beautifully free of the island's usual rows of loungers. Seen from the water, its pale beach and bare hills capture a quieter Mykonos.

   Fokos only on a suitable sea

   Reach Fokos only when the sea makes the journey inviting. Its remote beach, rocky valley and complete lack of resort frontage make it feel like a discovery at the end of the island.
